"Cosmetic is the art relating to treatment or products intended to improve a person's appearance. While, cosmetic science is the intellectual and practical activity encompassing the systematic study of the structure and behaviour to treatment or products intended to improve a person's appearance through observation and experiment."

"Cosmetic Scientist is a person who is studying or has expert knowledge relating to treatment or products intended to improve a person's appearance."

Society of Cosmetic Scientists of Malaysia (SCSMY) is the Malaysia national society for cosmetic science. It is a learned and professional body and exists to promote the cosmetic science and the professional interests of Malaysian scientists.

SCSMY is also one of the regional societies of the worldwide federation, International Federation of Societies of Cosmetic Chemists (IFSCC). Up to year end of 2005, there are around 45 regional SCSs all over the world. With a good relation between local and worldwide, SCSMY is dedicated to fulfill our missions and visions in cosmetic field.

A Brief History of the International Federation of Societies of Cosmetic Chemists (IFSCC)

The IFSCC is a truly worldwide federation dedicated to international cooperation in cosmetic science and technology. Interest in the formation of such an organization crystallized in Paris in 1956 and culminated in the birth of the federation in Brussels, Belgium on September 8,1959. At that time there were only 8 countries entering the Federation. Today, 45 Societies representing 56 countries have met the high standards of scientific and educational qualifications of the IFSCC and, as members, support the organization’s aims and programs. The most recent countries to join are Russia, Slovakia, India, China (Hong Kong), Singapore and Malaysia. The number of individual members in the Federation now exceeds 14,000 and is still growing.

"Welcome to the Web site of the Society of Cosmetic Scientists of Malaysia (SCSMY). The Society is a nonprofit, learned and professional society dedicated to promote the advancement of cosmetic science.

It was founded by a group of chemist, biochemist, pharmacologist and medical practitioner who recognized the need for a society that addresses the concerns of the cosmetic science would like to learn new cosmetic science & technology and stay abreast of the latest research and business trends in the field of cosmetic science.
